disasterhistory.com presents historical severe weather and disaster event data sourced from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Storm Events Database, a public U.S. government dataset. We do not collect, verify, or independently generate this data — we organize and present NOAA's published records to make them easier to search by location.

2. No Warranty

This site and its data are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Known limitations include, but are not limited to:

• Some events are attributed to National Weather Service forecast zones rather than counties, and zone-to-county mapping is approximated using historical reference data that may not perfectly reflect the boundaries in effect at the time of a given event.
• Approximately 4% of events do not have county-level attribution, primarily marine/lake-zone events with no corresponding land county.
• Zone geography prior to 2020 is approximated using the earliest available reference data and may not exactly reflect historical boundaries.
• Some source records contain unrecoverable character-encoding artifacts from NOAA's original files, which are displayed as-is.
• NOAA revises and updates its records on an ongoing basis; data on this site reflects the most recent import and may not include the most current revisions.

3. Absence of Data Is Not Evidence of Safety

The absence of a recorded event for a given location does not mean that location is free from risk of severe weather or disaster. It may reflect gaps in reporting, zone-based approximation, or the limits of NOAA's historical recordkeeping — not an actual absence of historical events.

4. Not a Substitute for Professional Advice

This site is for general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for a licensed property inspection, a state-mandated hazard disclosure report, insurance underwriting, or professional legal, financial, or real estate advice. Historical event data does not predict future risk. You should not rely on this site as the sole basis for any purchasing, insurance, or safety-related decision.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, disasterhistory.com and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site or its data — whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the extent any liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of this site is limited to $0, reflecting that this site is provided free of charge.

Nothing in this section is intended to limit liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded as a matter of law.

6. Acknowledgment Regarding Fatality Records

Some records include fatality-related information (e.g., age, sex, and general location context) as published directly by NOAA. This data is not generated or verified by disasterhistory.com.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

8. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
